Preschool Information

Thank you for your interest in our Preschool Classes at Calvary Baptist Church. Children age three, four, and five are enrolled in our Preschool Classes. These classes focus on skills to help prepare children for Kindergarten. Enrollment is determined based on space available. Our class size for preschool is limited to 14 children at most with 2 teachers per class. If classes are full we always accept names for our waiting list.

Our year-long session starts at the end of August and runs until the end of May. Our summer session runs from mid-June until the end of July.  Children must be enrolled for both Tuesdays and Thursdays. We follow Fayette County Public Schools school calendar. If Fayette County is out of school, we will be also.  We also follow their plan for inclement weather.  If they should close or dismiss early MDO will also. Each day our preschoolers are engaged in numerous activities.

Our Preschool classes also follow the WEE curriculum used for the Mother's Day Out program. We also include instruction and practice on skills developmentally appropriate for the preschool age child. These include taking turns, lining up, sharing, empathy, following directions, small group and large group time, as well as a variety of school-readiness skills.

School-readiness skills include:
Color and Shape recognition
Letter recognition
Letter sound knowledge
Number recognition
Gross and fine motor skills (cutting, writing, gluing, etc)

Our teachers have access to additional curriculum resources including Handwriting Without Tears, the Building a Strong Foundation for School Success Series Field Guide (a supplement to the Kentucky Early Childhood Standards), and training offered by the Kentucky Association of  Early Childhood Educators and the Childcare Council of Central Lexington.

We do NOT have a toilet training policy.   We will support each child as s/he begins to use the toilet and we will not set a deadline for diapers to be gone.  We place children in classrooms based on age.
